History of Original Quilt
The Thistle Quilters’ Quilt was made in 1990. It is an applique quilt with a central basket of flowers, surrounding frames on one side and patchwork frame design on the reverse. The piece is hand-quilted.
It was made by The Thistle Quilters’, Edinburgh’s longest established quilting group, as a fundraising piece for the British Quilt Heritage Project in the early 1990s. It was put into a raffle which was won by Tina Fenwick-Smith, who subsequently donated it to The Quilt Collection.
